Digital Inclusion

Created: 14. May 2025

The Nordic and Baltic societies have undergone a comprehensive digital transformation of the public sector in recent decades, with several public and financial services now requiring the use of electronic IDs (eID).

Because of this, access to electronic identities has become an important prerequisite for digital inclusion. In NOBID, current efforts on digital inclusion aim to contribute with insights on digital inclusion from the perspective the Nordic and Baltic countries´ eID landscape.

Since 2023, NOBID has been collaborating with the Nordregio project Digital Inclusion in Action to bring to light how eID issuance and access affect inclusion in the Nordic and Baltic societies.

The to be delivered report will include insights to the respective eID regimes in the countries. It will also take into account how the revision of the eIDAS regulation and the coming of European Digital Identity Wallets may affect digital inclusion.

The work on this report is expected to be concluded in 2025.
